Attention Activities
Attention Autism is an intervention program developed by speech and language therapist Gina Davies. It’s designed to help children—develop attention, communication, and social interaction skills in a fun, engaging, and structured way.
The program is built around four stages, each with a clear purpose:
Stage 1 – The Bucket
A highly motivating and visually stimulating activity is presented from a “bucket” to capture the child’s attention. The goal is to build shared attention—everyone focuses on the same thing together.
Stage 2 – The Attention Builder
The adult demonstrates an exciting, visually engaging activity (like a science experiment or art demonstration). The aim is to sustain attention for a longer period.
Stage 3 – The Interactive Game
Children take turns participating in a simple, structured activity. This stage encourages turn-taking and shared enjoyment.
Stage 4 – The Independent Activity
Children are given a task related to the session’s theme to complete independently, promoting focus, problem-solving, and independence.
The approach emphasizes fun, predictability, and visual support, helping children learn to attend, watch, and eventually communicate more effectively.
