We offer a limited number of courses over the year.

Free places are limited and costings vary according to school status and places required.

Makaton

Makaton is a training language programme using signs and symbols to help people communicate.  Training courses are available for family members, carers and workers who are interested or need to use Makaton at home or in their work. LZW school will offer a limited number of courses per year. Free spaces will be limited and costs vary dependent on school status and spaces required.

Makaton Beginners course - Luton schools & EY provisions

Free* 6 Week Evening Course - Delivered by qualified Makaton tutor.

Outcomes:

To be familiar and confident to use Makaton confidently in basic daily interactions.

To enable practitioners to enhance communication and understanding of children with SEND and EAL

As there are limited places on the course, we aim to prioritise those who will have the most practical impact.

Course dates and time:              

Spring term 2, beginner course 1:

The course is a Makaton beginners’ course for local school staff and parents.

Dates: Monday 5th , 12th 26th February 2024

Monday 4th , 11th ,18th March 2024

Time: 5:00pm-7:00pm

Summer term 1, beginner course 2:

The course is a Makaton beginners’ course for local school staff and parents. This course will be held on Tuesday due to bank holidays.

Dates: Tuesday 16th , 23rd , 30th April 2024

Tuesday 7th , 14th 21st May 2024

Time: 5:00pm-7:00pm

Summer term 2, Follow up course:

The course is a Makaton follow up course for local school staff and parents.

Dates: Monday 3rd , 10th , 17th , 24th June 2024

Monday 1 st , 8 th July 2024

Time: 5:00pm-7:00pm

Course participants:  Certification requires attendance to all sessions and completion of course feedback form.  

Closing date:  Once course is full (15 places) or 2 weeks before start date.

Venue:  Lady Zia Wernher School, Strangers Way, LU4 9ND

Access through main gate, the course entrance is the main entrance at the front of the school.
